The City of Clarence-Rockland will have a new fire chief in June.

City officials confirmed the appointment of Pierre Voisine as the new municipal fire chief and protection services director. He takes charge June 23 from Fire Chief Brian Wilson, who is retiring as of June 30.

“I am extremely excited to be moving my career to the municipality where I live,” stated Voisine. “The opportunity to work in Clarence-Rockland, one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Ontario, is exciting, and I look forward to working with the municipal council and the excellent management group in place.”

Voisine is fire chief for the City of Cornwall. Before that he served as the Canadian Armed Forces deputy fire marshal. During that time he was responsible for managing the Department of Defence’s Canadian Forces Fire Service, which served Canada’s military bases and its ships, and was also responsible for fire protection for military operations deployed throughout the country and abroad.

Voisine was a volunteer firefighter and also the training officer for The Nation Municipality’s fire department for several years, and has a large amount of experience in dealing with the needs of a fire department which has a large force of volunteer members. A graduate of the Ontario Fire College, Voisine’s professional background also includes education and experience in fire service administration, labour relations, and project management training from the University of Ottawa and from American universities in the city of Cincinnati and the state of Colorado.

“On behalf of city council and the residents of the City of Clarence-Rockland, I would like to welcome Pierre Voisine,” stated Mayor Guy Desjardins. “The choice was difficult, because we had several good candidates, and I thank them all for their interest. Our new fire chief has lived in Clarence-Rockland for several years. He, therefore, knows the municipality and its residents very well. It is definitely an asset to the safety of our citizens.”
