Two people charged in Hawkesbury drug bust

Two people face drug and weapons charges after a raid on a Hawkesbury residence.

Hawkesbury OPP executed a search warrant today (April 9) on a house on Main Street West in Hawkesbury. The raid ended with two people facing drugs and weapons charges.

A 50-year-old Hawkesbury woman and a 21-year-old man from Grenville-sur-la-Rouge in Québec are each charged with two counts of careless storage of firearms, two counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and single counts of illegal possession of a firearm, and possession of property obtained through crime.

Police seized an unspecified amount of methamphetamine, Percocet tablets, and a quantity of suspected cocaine, along with a load rifle with an ammunition magazine, an air-soft rifle, and more than $2000 in Canadian currency.

The two accused have been released on their own recognizance and are schedule for the August 8 provincial court session in L’Orignal.

Work continues on the Ecolomondo project, a “green” addition to Hawkesbury’s industrial sector and the company is optimistic about having its new showpiece recycling facility ready soon.
