The public beach at L’Orignal Park is closed until further notice.

The closure took effect August 27. Champlain Township posted a notice on its municipal website stating that the closure is for reasons of public health safety.

Lab analysis results for routine testing of water collected from the beach area showed that bacterial counts for E. coli in three of the five samples tested were higher than the recommended limits allowed under Ministry of Health guidelines.

Township staff will continue monitoring of the situation. Should the next test sampling results indicate that bacteria levels are back to normal, the township will notify residents and remove the beach closure notices.

Residents are urged not to ignore the closure order and to avoid swimming or going into the water at the beach until further notice.
