Invitation for an Internet speed test

Prescott-Russell business owners are invited to test the speed of their Internet connection.

The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) wants to find out the state of local Internet service for businesses in the region. The Internet connection speed survey is part of an overall project, in partnership with the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, to find ways to improve local connectivity for businesses in the area.

The UCPR has set up a test project through both its own website, at www.prescott-russell.on.ca, and through another link at https://internetspeed.celertech.ca, for business owners to take part in on February 21. Participants are asked to test the speed of their Internet connection at three separate time periods that day: between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., between 4 and 7 p.m., and between 7 and 11 p.m.

Those taking part in the test through the UCPR website need to click on the “Business” tab to go on to the test site. All participants must provide a valid email for possible follow-ups on test results. UCPR staff promise all emails will not be used for marketing or solicitation purposes.

Participants must also provide the postal code for their business and a street address to help pinpoint its location for the test, and also provide the name of their Internet service provider and the download and upload speeds that provider promises for the business connection.

The Internet speed test is a follow-up to a 2018 UCPR survey of commercial Internet service. The survey had 562 local businesses participating. Results indicated 48 per cent of Prescott-Russell businesses had problems with their Internet connection and also complaints about the cost of their service.
