The Law Society Tribunal has revoked a Rockland lawyer’s license over the misappropriation of clients’ money.

In a decision last Friday, the tribunal established that Stéphane Langlois misappropriated about $3.1 million from Charron, Langlois LLP’s trust accounts between January 2015 and August 2016. The tribunal also found that Langlois took about $35,000 more than was allowable as compensation as an estate trustee between November 2011 and May 2013.

The tribunal panel ordered that Langlois’ license to practise law be revoked, effective immediately, and that he pay $2,105,959.82 to the Law Society of Ontario’s compensation fund, the amount the fund had paid to 11 clients. He was also ordered to pay $32,200 in costs over five years, beginning one year after the decision date.

Langlois was not present nor represented at the tribunal during the decision.
