Rogers will be expanding its fibre network to Clarence-Rockland.

Rogers Communications announced on October 14 that it will be expanding its fibre network to Clarence-Rockland, among other places. An investment of $188 million will bring high-speed broadband to over 24,000 homes and businesses between North Grenville and Clarence-Rockland. Eastern Ontario has been calling for significant investment into high-speed internet infrastructure in the area for years.

“Our residents have long requested better Internet connectivity,” said Mayor Mario Zanth. “I am delighted that Rogers' investment will bring a reliable fibre optic network to homes and businesses in Clarence-Rockland. Economic development in Eastern Ontario depends on high-speed Internet and we welcome this announcement.”

Rogers has long claimed that fibre has been unavailable in Eastern Ontario due to the presence of Videotron, but that restriction has either been lifted or is being worked through.

“Access to reliable, high-speed internet is key to unlocking the full potential of communities and that is why Rogers is investing to expand our fibre network to residents and businesses in and around the Nation’s Capital,” said Ted Woodhead, president of Rogers Communications in Eastern Ontario. “With nearly 1000 Rogers team members in Ottawa, we are proud to be expanding our network in the area through an investment that will contribute to the regional economy and have a meaningful impact in the lives of local residents.”

The project is still early in the planning phase, so there is no information available at this time on how construction will proceed. Details will be released as they appear.
