Suspected drugs, cash seized from vehicle

A Cornwall woman faces multiple drugs charges after a vehicle was searched in Vars last week.

Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to an ambulance assistance calls at a Burton Road business at about 5:45 a.m. on Friday. According to a police statement, officers determined the motorist was impaired due to drug use.

Police alleged an investigation showed “the driver was in contravention of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act”, and the car was searched. The police statement said almost $18,500 worth of drugs, including suspected crack cocaine, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, psilocybin (mushrooms), oxycodone pills, ecstacy and cannabis, were found, as well as almost $6800 in cash.  

Tawnya Brunette, 33, was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a schedule I substance - other drugs, possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, and failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The charges have not been proven in court.
