The Nation Municipality has issued an update on progress towards building a new sports and recreation complex.

“I am very happy with the progress that has been made,” stated Mayor François St-Amour. “The contruction of The Nation Sports Complex in Limoges was approved unanimously by the members of council because it will be an important site for the health and well-being of citizens of all ages”

The municipality and le Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) have a lease agreement for a parcel of land adjacent to École élémentaire catholique St-Viateur in Limoges for the project site.

In July the municipality will issue a tender call for contractors to bid on constructing the facility. The proposed budget for the project is $13.7 million.

The facility, when finished, will include two soccer fields, each about two-thirds regulation FIFA in size, along with a walking track, and a community centre annex that will be able to accommodate up to 150 people for various indoor gatherings such as wedding receptions, town hall meetings, fundraiser dances, and special event parties.

The sports and recreation centre will be a multi-generational complex, designed to meet the needs of residents of all ages. The sports area itself will be able to accommodate team sports like soccer, football, softball, and Ultimate Frisbee, along with other activities.

“I would like to thank the members of council and the many employees who worked so hard on this great project,” stated Councillor Francis Brière of Ward 4. “Their commitment and hard work will benefit the families of our beautiful community for generations to come. The sports complex will become the heart of our community.”

Plans for the sports complex are available for view on The Nation website on the Recreation page.
