Russell police ticketed a Gatineau driver for speeding on Highway 417 on an undersized spare tire.

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) pulled the motorist over on the westbound Highway 417 east of Vars on Wednesday night for travelling more than 70 km/h over the speed limit. But the officers also noticed one of the wheels was a “donut”, an undersized spare tire intended only for short distances and to be used at less than 80km/h.

Police said the tires could be “very dangerous” when used at high speeds. The driver’s license was suspended and their car impounded, while they will face court on a stunt-driving charge in L’Orignal on December 3.
