Highway 417 has reopened near the Quebec-Ontario border after a tanker truck fire closed the road for more than eight hours overnight.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which happened near the border checkpoint in East Hawkesbury at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday.  The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), who were operating the checkpoint, said the vehicle caught fire after it suffered a blowout.

None of the fuel onboard was spilled and the East Hawkesbury fire department extinguished the fire. The highway was closed for eight and a half hours as the fuel was transferred and the Ministry of Transportation assessed the road. The Ministry of Environment was notified about the incident.
