Plantagenet crash victim identified

A Niagara Falls man in his 30s died after a five-vehicle crash on County Road 17 near Plantagenet on Wednesday morning.

Edward Ivanov died at the scene of the crash, which happened just west of County Road 9 near the École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet shortly after 8 a.m. The 35-year-old was alone in his vehicle at the time of the crash.

The Ornge air ambulance airlifted another motorist with serious injuries from the crash. They remained in a critical condition in an Ottawa hospital on Thursday afternoon. Another three people were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

County Road 17 was closed in the area for almost 10 hours on Wednesday as Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Hawkesbury officers investigated the crash site. Alfred-Plantagenet Township firefighters, Prescott-Russell paramedics also attended the scene.

Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing. Any witnesses or those who had information that could help investigators were urged to contact the Hawkesbury OPP at 613-632-2729.
