Women walk without fear
More than a hundred women, children, and men took to the streets of Hawkesbury early Wednesday evening to show their support for an end to violence against women and children.
Take Back the Night is an annual event around the world aimed at highlighting the issue of violence against women and children, including physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.
La coalition de Prescott-Russell pour éliminer la violence faites aux femmes/Prescott-Russell Coalition to End Violence Towards Women organized the Wednesday rally, with support and assistance the Town of Hawkesbury, le PPO, Hawkesbury Fire Department, Prescott-Russell Emergency Services, and several local and regional non-profit agencies.
Marchers waved placards, rattled noisemakers, and chanted as they followed a one-kilometre route from the Robert Hartley Sports Complex, through the downtown core of Hawkesbury, and back to the sports centre. The police and fire department provided a traffic escort for the march.
