Weekend gas leak closes road
A gas leak has caused a temporary shutdown on road reconstruction work in the centre of the Village of Vankleek Hill.
The Vankleek Hill Fire Department and Champlain Township office have posted online notices warning the public about a gas leak situation in the road construction area in the centre of the village. There is no cause for alarm.
The leak, which may have occurred over the past weekend, is located in the neighbourhood around the intersection of High Street and Wall Street. Fire fighers and other emergency services staff have overseen evacuation of homes in the vicinity of the leak. All road construction work in the area is at a standstill until the leak is repaired.
The township has also notified media by email about the situation. No further information on the gas leak situation is available at present but the fire department will notify the municipal office when the leak is repaired and the area deemed safe for residents to return to their homes.
