byelection this year?
Residents in Ward Four of the City of Clarence-Rockland may be headed for the polls later in the year.
City council agreed after some discussion during a Thursday night special session that a byelection was the best and most democratic way to replace Yvon Simoneau as councillor for the ward. Simoneau tendered his resignation earlier in the week, citing personal health reasons for his decision.
“M. Simoneau deserves thanks for his dedication to Ward Four residents,” said Mayor Guy Desjardins, “and also to the citizens of Clarence-Rockland.”
City administration presented council with a report on three options available to fill the now-vacant Ward Four seat until the civic elections in 2018. Council chose the third option, for a byelection later in the season, as the most democratic method.
Administration will provide council with a complete report at its Feb. 6 session on the procedures and cost for holding a byelection.
