Students go “blue” for Autism Awareness Day
It was a “blue” day April 2 at St. Jude Catholic School in Vankleek Hill, and at other schools throughout Canada, as students and staff all wore blue jeans, T-shirts, or other clothing to mark Autism Awareness Day.
Autism is classed as a spectrum disorder by psychologists because there are various types of autism and not everyone with the condition deals with the same challenges or displays the same skill strengths.
April is Autism Month all over the world as people, governments, and non-profit groups work to raise both public awareness about autism and develop programs to help people with autism, and their families, both deal with the condition and become full-functioning members of their communities.
That includes providing support for children with autism in schools so that they learn, make friends, and be part of the school community.
