School bus involved in morning accident
Four children were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries resulting from a collision Wednesday morning between their school bus and three other vehicles near Vankleek Hill.
Police closed down Highway 34 between Hawkesbury and Vankleek Hill as part of an investigation of the cause of morning accident south of the Pleasant Corner Road intersection with the highway.
Ambulance, fire, and police units responded to a 9 a.m. call Wednesday about a four-vehicle collision at the site, which involved both a tractor-trailer transport and a school bus which had children on board at the time.
Four of the children were taken to Hawkesbury and District General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Other children also on board the bus who did not appear injured were also taken to the hospital for examination as a precautionary measure.
The school bus driver was taken by helicopter to an Ottawa hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The police incident brief stated that no one in the other vehicles suffered injury.
Members of the Prescott-Russell Victims Services agency attended at the Hawkesbury hospital to provide assistance and support to the children and their parents and help them to deal with the situation.
Police have closed that section of Highway 34 to traffic and set up detours while traffic unit investigators are reviewing the scene of the collision. Police have promised an updated report on the investigation when details are available.
