Roll on up for the Vankleek Hill Fair
It was an “arresting” sight for many folks in Vankleek Hill as they watched the parade wander through the village Thursday evening to herald the start of four days of fun with the 173rd Annual Vankleek Hill Fair.
The volunteers behind the scenes were the focus of most of the speeches during the official opening ceremony at the fairgrounds. Chairman Bev Newton noted all the hard work responsible to keep one of the longest-running country fairs going in Ontario, and observed that this year’s theme emphasizes pride in the past and hope for the future, which he hopes will inspire local youth to join the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society.
“We need the youth with all their great ideas,” Newton said.
Thursday evening’s highlight events included The Hockey Circus Show in front of the grandstand followed by the bash ‘em-smash ‘em-crash ‘em action of the annual Combine Demolition Derby.
More entertainment, from agricultural shows to live music, is on site at the fairgrounds until Sunday evening. Check the fair schedule at www.vankleekhillfair.ca for details and times.
