Progressive Conservative Amanda Simard elected MPP
Progressive Conservative Amanda SImard was elected MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, the first member of this party to represent the riding since Albert Bélanger who lost to Don Boudria in 1981.
Simard, a councillor for Russell Township, beat Liberal candidate Pierre Leroux by over 4000 votes. Leroux, the Mayor of the Township of Russell, took over as Liberal candidate only in April after incumbent Grant Crack announced he was no longer running, even though his nomination had been confirmed.
Compilation of results in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell only started at 10:30 p.m., long after province-wide results were announced, after a computer glitch delayed voting in a station in Limoges.
