New stations for Rockland and Bourget
Bourget and Rockland will finally be getting two new fire stations that will also include additional bays to accommodate more ambulances.
The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) approved a proposal to this effect at its December 20 regular meeting. The need to meet legislated response times, increasing call volumes and higher staffing and vehicle requirements have prompted Clarence-Rockland to make proposals to this effect several times over the years. The costs for both stations will be included in the UCPR’s 2019 budget.
The new 1700-square-feet station in Bourget will accommodate both fire and paramedic services. The facility will cost approximately $ 42 000 per annum, plus utilities.
An ambulance and paramedical staff were added in Bourget seven years ago. Discussions for a new station have been ongoing since then.
Paramedical staff currently share the station washrooms with the firemen, but have been working in their vehicles outside of the station.
An ambulance station will be added as an extension to the fire station on Laurier Street, next door to City Hall. This new station will include bays to accommodate four ambulances. The annual cost of this new station is $ 170 000, plus utilities.
The current Landry Road ambulance station will be sold. The estimated market value of the facility currently stands at $ 455 000.
