New name for recreation centre
The Embrun Recreation Centre will have a new hame to honour the memory and legacy of a local man whose life has enriched the community.
Township council gave a unanimous vote of approval to a request from a local citizens group to renaming the Blais Street facility in honour of Camille Piché. A delegation, which included members of the Piché family, presented the request to council at the beginning of April.
Administration was asked to prepare a report on both the municipal policy for naming public buildings and the standard process for renaming an existing building. Council received the report during its April 15 session and approved the renaming request by unanimous vote to applause from members of the Piché family, their friends and supporters, gathered in the public gallery.
With the approval of council, township administration will now prepare a budget and plan for the official renaming ceremony for the Embrun Recreation Centre to take place later in the year.
