Midnight house fire in East Hawkesbury
Firefighters from three district stations answered a midnight house fire call in East Hawkesbury Township Friday.
Fifteen trucks and about 40 fire fighters from stations in East Hawksbury Township, North Glengarry Township, and the Village of Vankleek Hill in Champlain Township rushed to a reported house fire on Concession 9 Road in Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott in East Hawkesbury Township. The location of the fire is close to the municipality’s border with North Glengarry townships.
The fire call came in first to North Glengarry Fire Department, which relayed it to the East Hawkesbury. The house was vacant at the time of the incident.
Fire fighters spent three hours on site, putting out the fire and also using an excavator to move around the rubble so they could check for and douse any smouldering material to prevent it from reigniting later.
Fire Chief Dominic Normand reported the house as destroyed and noted that the incident is listed as “cause unknown” for now. Anyone who has any further information about the fire can call the East Hawkesbury Fire Department at 613-674-2170 or their local OPP detachment.
