Hydro turns power back on
Recent freezing rain plus high winds left parts of Eastern and Central Ontario in the dark during the first week of January.
Hydro crews are working as fast as they can to restore power in both urban and rural areas like the Village of Pendleton in Alfred-Plantagenet Township.
The last report was that more than 60,000 Hydro One customers were affected by the early January storm that swept over the two regions late last Tuesday.
Hydro officials say that the high winds combined with freezing rain and a previous heavy snow load brought down or damaged lines.
Motorists heading homewards during the late afternoon darkness Tuesday found themselves in some cases dodging around limbs fallen off of trees beside the road.
Line and repair crews from other parts of the province not affected by the early-January storm are being called in to help speed the power restoration work. As of early Thursday afternoon there are still more than 150 areas in both regions lacking power.
Hydro One officials say that anyone wanting information on how soon power is restored to their area can call toll-free to 1-800-434-1235 for an update.
