Cornwall donates bus to South Glengarry
The City of Cornwall recently donated a decommissioned Cornwall Transit bus to the South Glengarry Fire Service for training purposes.
The bus – a 1998 model – had reached the end of its lifespan and was in the process of being decommissioned and disposed of when a donation request was received by South Glengarry Fire. “It’s a great opportunity to help out a neighbour in the name of public safety,” said Cornwall Transit Manager Len Tapp.
South Glengarry Fire Service intends to use the surplus vehicle for extrication training. Given the Mega Bus accident which occurred in the summer of 2015 on Highway 401, officials from South Glengarry Fire saw the value in undertaking additional extrication training.
“This opportunity would ensure the safety of our first responders
and quicken response times in future accidents involving buses,” said Acting
Chief Dave Robertson of South Glengarry Fire Service.
