$4900 for Rockland Help Centre
Rockland Wal-Mart staff were on hand, July 25, in order to celebrate a $4900 donation to the Centre d’Aide de Rockland Help Centre.
“It’s a program we have with our head office,” said Gord Maclean, manager of the store. “We therefore gave a matching amount of $2000.” Several members of the Help Centre were all smiles during the celebration. “It will help us a lot,” said the president, André Perras.
“We get a lot of non-perishables during the Christmas season, but a lot of it runs out by March.” In addition to the amount given, the Rockland Wal-Mart also donates several non-perishable food items throughout the year. “We give things that are damaged but still safe,” said Maclean.
“For example, we would give a box of
cereal that is dented. We can’t sell it, but they sure can use it.” According
to Perras, the Help Centre spends about $100,000 a year on perishable foods and
helps on average 265 families a year.
